Hundreds of children and teens signed up to volunteer at Chasdei Naomi
This summer, the offices of the major charitable organization, Chasdei Naomi, received hundreds of applications from children and youth who wanted to spend their vacation doing charitable work and volunteering.
The volunteers were assigned according to days and activities that were most suited to their age, and were kept busy sorting and packing food products for needy families.
Rabbi Yosef Cohen, Chair of Chasdei Naomi, welcomed the initiative and explained that this has a double value. “For us at Chasdei Naomi, every act of volunteering is important – we need many hands to sort, pack and deliver food products to thousands of families. But also, for the child who is volunteering, this is an educational experience that contributes a great deal to his development and awareness of performing charitable work.”
Chasdei Naomi notes that these summer volunteers are reinforcing the ongoing volunteer activity that takes place during the year – regular activity that includes 20,000 volunteers, some of whom are school pupils as well as staff members, who work to pack and sort in the organization’s logistical centers. All of the packed merchandise from these centers is sent to Chasdei Naomi’s 40 distribution points around the country, and from there to the needy families.
