Hasdei Naomi volunteers equipped with bullet-proof vests and combat helmets are now distributing to residents of southern Israel “emergency packages” containing instant foods, soft drinks, candy and children’s toys
The conflict situation in southern Israel was not greeted with indifference by Hasdei Naomi’s volunteer staff, who immediately announced a special campaign to distribute emergency packages.
The chairman of Hasdei Naomi, Rabbi Yosef Cohen, explained that, in contrast to the regular food packages that the organization distributes throughout the year, which contain basic goods such as rice, oil, pasta, etc., the emergency packages that have been prepared especially for the residents of the south consist primarily of ready-to-eat foods that need no cooking or baking, such as canned tuna, corn, pickled vegetables, baked goods and candy for children. Each package also includes several brand-new games and toys for children, gifts and other surprises capable of occupying children and other family members during the time they are obliged to remain in secure rooms and spaces.
Hasdei Naomi truck drivers and volunteers donned bullet-proof vests and combat helmets so that they could carry out the distribution operation relatively safely. Additionally, in order to ensure maximum protection for the volunteers and the families arriving to receive the packages, some of the organization’s southern distribution stations were temporarily located to shelters and secure spaces.
