In honor of Chasdei Naomi’s 10th anniversary of activity in Ashdod, and in advance of its expanded activity in the city, Chasdei Naomi’s chairman Rabbi Yosef Cohen and representatives of the organization met with Ashdod’s chief Rabbi Yosef Sheinin.
Chasdei Naomi is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary of charitable activity in Israel’s southern port city of Ashdod. The organization has been in operation for 28 years on a national level.
Some 500 needy families from Ashdod receive food baskets, fruits and vegetables on a regular basis, and demand is steadily increasing.
The food distribution in Ashdod currently takes place in a shelter in an apartment building, and is administered by a dear family that volunteers its assistance. Each week the family coordinates the activity of volunteers who prepare and package dozens of tons of food products and fruits and vegetables for those in need.
Chasdei Naomi is working on a plan to expand its activity in Ashdod; among other things, to move the distribution center to a more spacious and dignified setting, and for greater contact and cooperation with the authorities, social services, and local rabbis.
This week, as noted above, the Chasdei Naomi Chairman and the organization’s representatives met with Ashdod’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yosef Sheinin, who warmly thanked Chasdei Naomi for the past decade of its welcome activity in the city and for its initiative and never-ending charitable efforts. “You really keep people alive, and the mitzvah of charity in which you are involved is the foundation of the world,” said the Rabbi.
Rabbi Sheinin and the organization’s representatives discussed plans to expand their activity in the city, and a number of ideas were raised for cooperation. During the meeting, the Rabbi asked for his own personal Chasdei Naomi charity box for his office and he took out a donation on the spot and placed it in the box.
