Hodaya, a newly engaged kallah, chose life against all odds. With incredible fortitude and uncompromising emunah, she grapples each day to function and earn a livelihood. Her greatest dream is to establish a bayis ne”eman beYisrael. You can have a share in the tremendous zechus of helping this needy kallah. Hashem promises us: “If you make Mine happy, I will make yours happy!”
Hodaya, 20, lives in central Israel. At the age of 7, she fell while playing hide-and-seek and sustained a serious head injury. She lost consciousness and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, where, several days later, a blood clot was detected in her brain. The doctors gave her no hope and said she was “brain dead.”
Hodaya”s mother refused to give up, and with the help of devoted askanim, succeeded in bringing to Israel a world-renowned surgeon from the United States who agreed to try and dislodge the blood clot, despite Hodaya”s young age. The rare procedure attracted a great deal of attention, and dozens of specialists from all over the world observed the operation from live broadcast. Before the operation, Hodaya”s parents were made to sign a consent form, and were told that the chances of the operation”s success were very slim, Rachmana litzlan.
Miraculously, the operation succeeded, to the amazement of the medical staff. Hodaya opened her eyes, but was still a “vegetable,” unable to speak or to move.
The doctors, who gave no chance of Hodaya ever recovering, recommended that she be transferred to an institution so that her parents could attend to their other children. Hodaya”s mother, however, refused to give in, and tried different ways to awaken her from her vegetative state.
}Gradually, Hodaya began to respond to her familiar surroundings. Over the course of a long, painful rehabilitation period, which included myriad disappointments for every small victory, Hodaya started to perform basic functions. After slow but steady progress, Hodaya was enrolled in a regular school, where she succeeded in overcoming her handicap and was integrated socially.
Hodaya”s parents spared no effort or expense, exposing her to various treatments, including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, a personal coach and more. Today she can stand on her feet but her left side is still paralyzed. She finds it especially difficult to move her left arm and has undergone a series of operations. Today, she is considered 75% handicapped.
Nevertheless, Hodaya has good cognitive skills, an above-average IQ and excels in mathematics. Recently, she graduated with honors from an accounting course given by the Israeli Ministry of Trade, Industry and Labor.
During her free time, Hodaya volunteers with rehabilitation patients, giving them hope and encouraging them to work hard toward recovery. Needless to say, she”s a living example!
Hodaya comes from a large chareidi family with limited means of support. When she became of shidduchim age, Hodaya was confronted with disappointment after casino spiele disappointment.
