Hanukkah Candles Shine in Hearts
The Chasdei Naomi association team visited Ashkelon to bring joy to Holocaust survivors and elderly people during Hanukkah and distribute cozy winter kits. Hedva, 84, present at the event, stated: “Thank you for not forgetting us.”
More than 100 elderly people and Holocaust survivors celebrated Hanukkah last week at the ‘Amishav’ senior residence in Ashkelon. This moving event was initiated by the Hasdei Naomi association, which helps Holocaust survivors, elderly people, and families in need throughout the year, and they were joined by volunteers from the “Youth for an Equal Society” association who came to bring happiness to the elderly
Let's Not Forget Our Elders, They Need Us
In addition to lighting candles and enjoying doughnuts and treats, the Hasdei Naomi association distributed winter kits to the elderly as part of their major winter campaign. The comfortable and comforting kit includes: a soft reversible blanket, a scarf, gloves, thermal clothing, a hot water bottle, socks, slippers, a fleece…
Sofia Beilin, head of the Aliyah department at Ashkelon city hall, was also present at the event.
Hedva, 84, lives in this senior residence. With bright eyes, she stated: “The Hasdei Naomi association came to see us with many treats to make the cold winter days happier and warmer and to brighten our hearts during Hanukkah. For all this we are very grateful, but we are especially grateful for the affection they show us. They don’t forget us, the elderly and Holocaust survivors. We hope for better days for all the people of Israel.
Hundreds of Requests for Help Every Day
Tshouva Cabra, head of social services at Hasdei Naomi association, explains: “For Hanukkah, we chose to come here to warm hearts. Unfortunately, there are still Holocaust survivors today who survived the war but cannot survive the winter cold. I receive hundreds of calls every day and, as every year, we distribute thousands of winter kits, emphasizing product quality and safety.”
Moshe Cohen, CEO of Hasdei Naomi, emphasizes that in addition to thousands of winter kits, the association provides complementary services if necessary: “We sometimes face unexpected situations: a broken window that needs repair, electrical problems, lack of food, etc. I want to thank all the volunteers and donors and encourage donations from anyone who can help elderly people get through winter safely.”
