Firefighters’ Pride: Children of Firefighters Volunteer to Help Kids from Underprivileged Families

Firefighters' Children volunteering and packing school supplies for children from families in need

In its 11th consecutive year, the “Full Backpack” project has once again launched with the noble goal of distributing new backpacks and school supplies to children from low-income families. This initiative ensures that every child can return to school with genuine excitement and the necessary tools for learning. This year, the project received significant support from an unexpected source: firefighters and their children, who volunteered to pack the new backpacks with essential school supplies.

The “Full Backpack” project was created to assist parents with the high costs of educational materials. These expenses often pose a significant financial burden on many families, especially those with multiple school-age children. This year, in the aftermath of the Iron Swords War, there has been a surge in demand for assistance, as the conflict has affected numerous families across Israel.

 A Day of Volunteerism

As part of the project, a volunteer day was organized, featuring the participation of firefighters and employees from fire and rescue stations in the “HaUma” district of Jerusalem. The volunteers, including firefighting and rescue workers and their children, packed backpacks and school supplies in preparation for the upcoming distribution.

 Community Effort

The volunteers made a substantial contribution to this important initiative. They packed dozens of backpacks, ensuring that each one contained all the necessary supplies. The group of volunteers carefully placed a wide range of products into each backpack, all of which were specifically purchased by the non-profit organization for this project. The supplies included:

– Lined and graph paper notebooks

– High-quality pencil cases

– Markers

– Pencils

– Pencil sharpeners

– Erasers

– And various other essential school items.

This collaborative effort between firefighters, their families, and the non-profit organization demonstrates the power of community engagement in supporting education and easing the financial burden on families in need. By providing these essential supplies, the “Full Backpack” project helps ensure that all children, regardless of their family’s financial situation, can start the school year on an equal footing, fully equipped and ready to learn.
