Summing up a blessed activity 'FullBackpack'
September 1st has arrived, and thousands of excited students started the 2024-2025 school year, which opened in the shadow of the “Swords of Iron” war. As in every year, the Chasdei Naomi organization prepared for the new school year with the ‘Full Backpack’ project, which took place during the summer. This year, due to the consequences of the war, there was an increase in demand for assistance
'Full Backpack' fundraising campaign
To launch the project, Chasdei Naomi opened a fundraising campaign.
With the raised funds, the organization purchased equipment including:
– New, high-quality backpacks
– New pencil cases
– Writing materials
– Notebooks
– Additional required supplies
– Even something sweet
All these items were for children from low-income families
Community engagement - significant volunteering
For packing the equipment, various organizations volunteered:
Israel Police – officers from the Givatayim station
Fire and Rescue Israel – firefighters from the Nation station in Jerusalem and their children
Employees of the Kan 11 broadcasting corporation, along with their children.
Other good citizens in Israel and even from Canada.
Special cooperation with Bezeq company
For the first time this year, Bezeq company enlisted its employees for a touching collaboration: dozens of Bezeq employees came to Chasdei Naomi’s logistics warehouses spread across central, northern, and southern Israel, as well as the Jerusalem area. They went out to distribute thousands of backpacks to over 30 cities throughout the country
Concentrated distribution days
Alongside the distribution with Bezeq,Chasdei Naomi held concentrated distribution days
– In Beit Shemesh, in collaboration with the municipality and Mayor Shmuel Greenberg
– In Rechasim, in partnership with Rabbi Reich – head of the Rechasim local council
During these events, children and parents came to choose back-to-school equipment.
A littile about 'FullBackpack' campaign
The project was born following the experiences of the organization’s chairman, Rabbi Yosef Cohen, who grew up in extreme poverty. He recounts that as a child, he went to school with a plastic bag containing a pencil, a single notebook, and a margarine sandwich.
The entire ‘Full Backpack’ project was made possible thanks to all those involved in the work, thanks to whom thousands of students started the year with a smile, a good feeling, and motivation to learn.
