On Tuesday, 11 March 2014, Israel celebrated Good Deeds Day. In honor of the initiative, thousands of volunteers – including hundreds of soldiers, hundreds of Bank HaPoalim employees and administrators, and many others – came to Chasdei Naomi’s centers in Bnei Brak, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Bat Yam to contribute their time and energy on behalf of the less fortunate. Chasdei Naomi prepared for the day’s activities via a complex logistical operation in which, over the course of several weeks, thousands of volunteers collected food items from people’s homes, commercial enterprises contributed food products in larger quantities, and farmers donated hundreds of tons of fruits and vegetables. The entire stock of goods was distributed via Chasdei
Naomi trucks to the organization’s activity centers. Volunteers who arrived for duty were briefed by the center administrators and began sorting and assembling food packages – which, starting at the end of this week, will be delivered to the homes of over 10,000 needy people around the country.
Rabbi Yosef Cohen, Chairman of Chasdei Naomi, expressed profound gratitude to the many volunteers for their willingness to help, and lauded Shari Ariston and the Ted Ariston Family Foundation for their Good Deeds Day initiative. “The [Good Deeds] Day declared by the Ariston Foundation is gaining momentum from year to year and raising awareness of the joy of giving and contributing to the community,” Rabbi Yosef Cohen said, adding a special commendation of the Chasdei Naomi volunteers who engage in good deeds 365 days a year.
